Superficial lipomatous hamartoma is a rare congenital and benign tumor characterized histologically by the presence of lipoblastic fat cells around the vascular pathways. We report a new observation of an atypical localization of this entity.
A 21-year-old patient with no significant pathological history presented since the age of 6 with an asymptomatic verrucous patch on the right arm (Figure 1).
The clinical examination found a verrucous plaque of flesh color, soft consistency, on the right arm.
The diagnosis of superficial lipomatous hamartoma was made based on histological findings. Biopsy showed a polypoid and protruding epidermis surmounted by a moderate orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis and the presence of a variable quantity of adipose tissue in the form of small clumps or isolated mature fat cells through the entire thickness of the dermis.
Surgical excision of the lesion was proposed to the patient.
