He is currently the treasurer of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies. He is a member of the Public Affairs and Biologics committee for NASS and the research committee of AO spine. He is the author of 82 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters and the co-author of 2 text books. Dr. Steinmetz received his medical degree from Texas Tech School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. He completed an Internship in general surgery at the University of New Mexico and a Residency in Neurological Surgery at The Cleveland Clinic. He completed a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Wisconsin then returning to the faculty at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Mondello is a trained physician with a sub-specialty in critical care medicine and with extensive experience in clinical neurotrauma, biomarker research and statistical analysis methods, as revealed by the publication history. Previously she was Director of Clinical Research at Banyan Biomarkers, Inc. He conducted research on the 'Role of end-tidal CO2 monitoring in patients intubated and resuscitated in the emergency department' as his thesis for specialty graduation in 1998. He has been working as a faculty member since September 1998 in Dokuz Eylul University Medical School, Dept. of Emergency Medicine. He had gained docentship title in October, 2004. In the meantime, he completed the Fellowship Program in International Emergency Medicine Pennsylvania State University, Dept. of Emergency

He has served as a faculty member in Acibadem University Medical School, Dept. of Emergency Medicine between 2009-15. In the meantime (2011), he had also participated in the refreshment work for the Joint Commission International (JCI) certification in the Acibadem Bakirkoy Hospital. At the end of 2015 he started serving in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Istanbul Education and Research Hospital, Fatih, Istanbul. He had served as a founder and a board member of The Emergency Medical Association of Turkey between 2007 and 2009, and also member of The American College of Emergency Physicians, National Association of Trauma and Emergency Surgery, Association of Emergency Physicians, The European Society of Emergency Medicine-EuSEM. His research interests are resuscitation, advanced life support, pain management, airway emergencies, disaster medicine, trauma and toxicology.
