Hypothyroidism is an extremely common condition. More than 100 million prescriptions for thyroxine (T4) are processed in the USA each year. T4 is the recommended treatment for hypothyroidism. But 5-15% of patients treated to target with T4 continue to have symptoms. Some of these patients respond dramatically to the addition of triiodothyronine (T3) as first reported 20 years ago....
