Posterior Circulation Infarcts and Carotid Disease. Is There a Correlation?

Ingram OD, Ali T, Khosla N, Burney K and Kakar P

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 14, 2019

We present a case of a 66-year-old man who presented with a history of Right Hemianopia and Right sided facial droop and weakness. CT and MRI brain imaging demonstrated areas of infarction affecting the vascular regions supplied by Left Middle Cerebral Artery and Left Posterior Cerebral Artery circulation. Carotid Duplex Arterial imaging demonstrated moderate Left Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis and CT Angiography demonstrated a dominant Left Posterior Communicating Artery. The origin of the multi-territory Stroke as demonstrated on the MRI scan was his underlying Carotid disease. The patient...

Predictors of Heart Failure Caused by Volume Overload Using an Irrigation Catheter during Catheter Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation

Taeko Sato, RN, Issei Yoshimoto, MD, Naoya Oketani, MD, Hideki Okui, MD, Yasuhisa Iriki, MD, Hitoshi Ichiki, MD, Ryuichi Maenosono, PhD, Fuminori Namino, MT, Masaaki Miyata, MD and Mitsuru Ohishi, MD

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: August 14, 2019

Catheter ablation is an effective approach for managing patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Currently, irrigation catheters are widely used in AF ablation. This causes volume overload during the procedure and occasionally causes heart failure after the procedure. Volume overload during catheter ablation caused heart failure not only in the patient with reduced ejection fraction but also who with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction. Heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction is a widely accepted disease, but there have been few reports of the predictors of hear...

Surgical Repair of an Unstable Third Metatarsophalangeal Joint Dislocation via Direct Plantar Plate Repair: A Simple and Effective Technique

Christopher W Kinter, MD, Kevin J Kinter, MS and Christopher W Hodgkins, MD

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 12, 2019

Traumatic dislocation of a lesser metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint is a rare case for a foot and ankle surgeon to encounter. These dislocations can be difficult to reduce due to the surrounding connective tissues that may be interposed in the joint space. These include the plantar plate, deep transverse metatarsal ligament, flexor tendons, and lumbricals. When the clinician is unable to reduce the phalanx, surgery is required to prevent sequelae such as further swelling, ecchymosis, joint damage, and impingement of the neurovascular bundle. In this case report, we present the case of a 53-year-...

Repeat Ultrasonographic Examinations Reveal Accessory Spleen in a Case with Relapse ITP

Ahmet Sarici, Ayshe Slocum, Hilal Er Ulubaba, Mehmet Hanifi Kandemir, Mehmet Ali Erkurt, Emin Kaya and Irfan Kuku

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: August 09, 2019

The aim of treatment in patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is to obtain a safe platelet count to prevent clinically significant bleeding (major bleeding) rather than normalizing the platelet count. In light of this information, treatment indications for newly diagnosed ITP patients include, I) Thrombocyte counts below 30,000/microL and II) Platelet counts above 30,000/microL in correlation with clinically significant bleeding. Corticosteroids make-up the first-line treatment of patients newly diagnosed with ITP. Intravenous immunoglobulin and Anti-(Rh) D are other treatment op...

Descriptive Study of Neisseria Meningitidis Isolates from Patients in Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico in 2010 and 2011

Luz Elena Espinosa de los Monteros Perez, Jimenez Rojas LV, Gomez-Barreto D and Vazquez Moreno JA

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: August 08, 2019

Neisseria meningitidis is recognized as the cause of Infection Meningococcal Disease (IMD) generally develops rapidly 20% of survivors suffer from neurological and disabling sequelae in spite of prompt antibiotic therapy. The disease is a major concern in public heath worldwide and can occur as sporadic cases, outbreaks, and large epidemics. Although in Mexico the invasive meningococcal disease is notifiable, reports about meningococcal diseases are scarce with no data available related to the presence of genotypes or "hyper invasive lineages"....

We retrospectively analysed the data that underwent PD between 2013-2017. We reviewed for all patients who experienced Grade B POPF. Data included details of total parenteral nutrition received, dose of octreotide infusion administered, serial drain amylase levels, effluent volume and anthropometry. Outcome measures were weight changes associated with treatment, the number of lines used per patient, the length of treatment, treatment associated complications and 90-day mortality rates....

Hidden Toxicity of Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Ingredients

Arthur E Brawer, MD

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: August 07, 2019

Over the past five years clinicians from numerous countries have implicated human papillomavirus (HPV) immunizations as the cause of diverse systemic ailments, egregious injuries, and even death. Vaccine ingredients in Gardasil and Cervarix contain hidden organosiloxanes (organosilicones) and silica (silicon dioxide), all of which are capable of creating biochemical disturbances that are strikingly similar to the metabolic disruptions identified in both chronic fatigue syndrome and the recurrent public health debacle of silicone gel-filled breast implant toxicity....

Lateral Sinus Thrombosis as a Complication of Acute Otitis Media, Clinical Case Report in Bogota, Colombia

Gilberto Eduardo Marrugo Pardo, Carlos Julian Adarme Gomez and Alejandra Oliveros Vargas

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: August 07, 2019

Septic thrombosis of the lateral sinus is a rare complication of otitis media; currently, it hasn't been found a case report of septic thrombosis of the lateral sinus in the medical literature of Colombia and, in addition to this, there is no consensus in the management of this pathology. Hence the importance of the present case, which is a 3-year-old male patient, who presented a clinical picture of 7 days of evolution characterized by right otalgia and fever, which after the administration of amoxicillin for 5 days got complicated and showed symptoms of severe headache, photophobia, nausea a...

How Sexual Behaviors are Influenced by Personal Cognition and Control Toward Sex? Let Chinese University Students Tell You

Fangqiang Wei, Chu Wang, Yanli JIA, Bingren Zhang, and Wei Wang

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: August 05, 2019

In addition to sexual desire and knowledge, sexual morality, desire control, and attitude toward sex might contribute to the premarital sexual behaviors in young people, but were less studied. In 886 Chinese university students of Study 1, we have developed a Sexual Awareness and Coping Strategy Inventory (SACSI) with four domains of Personal release, Sexual knowledge, Traditional sexual morality and Negative attitude, which displayed satisfactory convergent and discriminant validities. In Study 2, we have invited 25 female students with (FS) and 50 without (FN), 50 male with (MS) and 97 witho...
