Preoperative Factors Predicting Failure of Hemiarthroplasty after Displaced Subcapital Fractured Neck of Femur in the Active Elderly

Moniz S, Eranki A, Hodgkinson S and Yates P

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: May 14, 2018

Displaced intracapsular hip fractures are a common problem in Australia. The majority of patients with this injury are of low demand. They present with fragility fractures and are treated successfully with a hemiarthroplasty which offers a shorter operative time, less chance of reoperation and less blood loss. In more active individual's acetabular erosion, pain and decreased function limit the success of these implants and a total hip replacement may be beneficial....

Echocardiography showed pericardial effusion during procedure and she was operated immediately. Left atrial rupture repaired with sternotomy. After stabilizing the hemodynamic and metabolic parameters, intraoperative bipolar ablation was performed....

Humanized Care: A Challenge for Nursing

Oscar Alberto Beltran Salazar

Article Type: Letter To The Editor | First Published: May 10, 2018

The practice of health care currently reflects a constant tension between to be and should be, in other words, between what actually the care is and what it should be, up to limits in which people can speak of dehumanization. This tension is evident in areas such as the relationship between the medical and nursing staff, the patients and their families, mediated by labor conditions, the use of technology and health administration often guided by reductionist criteria that have limited the interaction that underlies human care....

Luis Fernando Antunes Pinheiro, Leonardo Fleury Orlandini, Mariana Scombatti Filipe, Jose Antonio Cordeiro and Patricia Maluf Cury

Article Type: Review Article | First Published: May 07, 2018

Relationship between environmental pollution and lung cancer has not been fully clarified. There are particles with aerodynamic mass below 2.5 m, capable of directly injuring the lung due to their small size. The majority arise from the burning of fossil combustibles, and are called "residual oil fly ash" (ROFA). They have been demonstrated to damage cells in different ways; however, their relationship with lung cancer etiology has not been clarified....
