Epidemiology as a Tool for Social Communication as a Fulfillment of the Millennium Goals: An Updated Look at the Causes in Parasitosis. Havana 2019

Osvaldo Batista Rojas

Article Type: Review Article | First Published: December 09, 2019

The epidemiology aims to describe and explain the dynamics of population health, identify the elements that compose it and understand the forces that govern it, in addition to promoting health, preventing and controlling diseases through the knowledge of their causes, in order to intervene in the course of their natural development to modify them. The nascent development of capitalism gave new impetus to the development of epidemiology and a renewed nuance to the causal conception of morbid states. The millennium change served as a pretext to discuss the future of this scientific discipline an...

Adult Patients who were Breastfed are Less Anxious but Suffer More Frequently of Non-Diarrheic Functional Bowel Disorders

Michel Bouchoucha, Ghislain Devroede, Pierre Rompteaux, Florence Mary, Bakhtiar Bejou and Robert Benamouzig

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: December 04, 2019

Many patients have persistent and recurring GI symptoms attributed to the digestive system. The Rome criteria, a classification of the functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) has been proposed, for FGIDS not associated to any structural or biochemical abnormalities. These disorders can affect any part of the GI tract (esophagus, stomach, colon, terminal intestine). FGIDs are not psychiatric disorders, although stress and psychological difficulties can make FGIDs worse. There are three primary features of FGIDs, namely motility, sensation and brain-gut dysfunction....

Yoshikazu Kikuchi, Toshiro Umezaki, Motohiro Sawatsubashi, Masahiko Taura, Yumi Yamaguchi, Daisuke Murakami and Takashi Nakagawa

Article Type: RESEARCH ARTICLE | First Published: December 09, 2019

Participants were 120 CWS, aged 3-12 years, who were patients at our hospital. Each child was asked the following three questions: Has anyone asked you why you speak in that way? (questioned); has anyone imitated the way you speak? (imitated); and has anyone laughed at your speech? (laughed). We also asked if the CWS felt unhappy or happy about these responses. The total proportion of children who were questioned, imitated, and laughed at was 66.6%. Most of the CWS in the study over 4-years-old felt unhappy with any of these responses to stuttering. We found that even at age 4, CWS remembered ...

Wilfrid von Boch-Galhau, Christiane Forster and Jorge Guerra Gonzalez

Article Type: Book Review | First Published: November 11, 2019

Parental Alienation is an important mental condition that professionals in the field, especially those who work with children, adolescents and adults from divorced families should know. Although about thousand three hundred professional articles, book chapters and books, and also empirical studies, exist meanwhile (see website www.mc.vanderbilt.edu/pasg) from all over the world, there is still considerable controversy about the existence of Parental Alienation. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manuel (DSM-5) of the American Psychiatric Association (APA) Parental Alienation (PA) is a...

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: December 04, 2019

Athletes in the National Basketball Association (NBA) are at risk of sport-related injuries due to the frequent jumping, pivoting, and overhead movements that constantly strain the musculoskeletal system. A comprehensive understanding of how shoulder injuries affect athletes during their NBA careers and into retirement has not been studied. The purpose of this study is to utilize a survey to evaluate the epidemiology of shoulder injuries in NBA players and determine the impact that these injuries have on post-retirement function and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL). A survey encompassin...

Prospective Study of Autologous Adipose Derived Stromal Vascular Fraction Containing Stem Cells for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

Mark Berman, MD, Elliot Lander, MD, Thomas Grogan, MD, Walter O'Brien, MD, Jonathan Braslow, MD, Shawntae Dowell and Sean Berman, MS

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: November 29, 2019

The management of osteoarthritis of the knee runs the spectrum of care from a variety of conservative treatments often culminating in total joint arthroplasty. We initiated a large prospective study to evaluate whether autologous adipose derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF - rich in stem cells) therapy is a safe and effective option. A patient funded prospective study of 2,586 patients from a network of physicians participated in an IRB approved study using autologous stromal vascular fraction SVF (ClinicalTrials.gov as NCT10953523). All patients were treated with a standardized surgical pr...

Selection of Cells for Parkinson's Disease Cell-Therapy

Ashok Chakraborty and Anil Diwan

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: November 25, 2019

Availability of DOPA in situ and thereafter Dopamine (DA) is the main therapeutic approach to treat the Parkinson's Disease (PD). Human neural stem cells (hNSCs), a good source of DA synthesis and release, have long been demonstrated to be a promising candidate for treating PD. However limited cell sourcing and low-growth rate are major concern of its applicability. Different types of other stem cells or reprogrammed somatic cells, including induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), holds tremendous potentiality for DA synthesis and the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, several iss...

Open single-center comparative randomized clinical study in two parallel groups. 60 volunteers at the age of 18 to 65 years participated in the research. This was a 4-week, single-centre, open-label, two-treatment, parallel- group, exploratory study in healthy adult volunteers with self-reported and clinically diagnosed Dentin hypersensitivity. Evaporative, chemical and thermal stimuli were used to measure pain. Measurements were obtained at baseline, 2 weeks and 4 weeks. The assessment of efficacy was measured by Green-Vermillion and Silness-Loe Index, safety was tested by frequency and sever...

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: November 27, 2019

Conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of natural products in the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) and their effect on the size and pain levels compared with placebos. Randomized placebo-controlled trials were identified up to January 2019 in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science and Cochrane Library. Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias. The search yielded 248 unduplicated references. After evaluation, 11 studies with 694 subjects with RAS were included. One was considered low risk of bias, two were considered high risk and eight were considered uncl...
