Silver Nanoparticles Impregnated Nanocollagen as Scaffold for Soft Tissue Repair-Synthesis, Characterization, and In vitro Investigation

V Subha, S Kirubanandan, R Ilangovan and S Renganathan

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: July 09, 2021

The regeneration of soft tissue is challenging task in the medicine due to infection at the wound site. Therefore, it requires a rapid regeneration scaffold for dermis and epidermis in the soft tissue. The silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) impregnated nanocollagen has been developed for soft tissue repair. The nano-collagen contained silver nanoparticles facilitates the rapid regeneration of wounded skin, when compared to collagen microfibers. Collagen was extracted from scales of Catla fish and made...

New Preparation Method of Reynolds' Stain for Transmission Electron Microscope for Liver Samples

Santhana Raj L, Nur Dayana MA, Norzarila SN, Tan CV and Nur Afrina MH

Article Type: Original Research | First Published: July 09, 2021

This preparation would maintain good contrast and reduce the formation of lead carbonate in resin-embedded tissue sections. This new method provides a shorter staining protocol of fewer than 5 minutes, extended storage duration, improved contrast, higher broad differential range, and prevents contamination from the environment. Introducing 20% ethanol to the lead citrate formula makes it to be more stable than lead nitrate formula. Although this technique is well known, contrasting is one of the...

Extended Spectrum β-Lactamase Mobile Gene Encoded Variants CTX-M, TEM, SHV, AmPC and FOX among Serratia marcescens, Ile- Ife South Western Nigeria

Omololu-Aso J and Awoderu BO

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: June 14, 2021

We investigated the incidence and antibiogram profile of Serratia marcescens among hospitalized individuals, hospital environments and halls of residence of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife, Osun state. These were with a view to provide key information at molecular level that are of epidemiological and therapeutic importance. Two hundred and twenty samples from clinical and nonclinical sources were collected with ethical clearance approval (ERC/2018/09/02) from the hospital advisory committ...

Associations between Physical Activity and Depressive Symptoms through Obesity and School Bullying among Adolescents

Evan K Kim and Timothy Munro

Article Type: Research Article | First Published: June 30, 2021

Physical activity has been shown to be associated with improved physical and mental health conditions and can reduce the risk of depressive symptoms among adolescents. While the underlying mechanisms thought to mediate the relation between physical activity and depressive symptoms have not been well-established, the current study investigated the association of physical activity with depressive symptoms and whether this relationship would be explained by obesity and experiencing school bullying....

COVID-19 Post-Vaccinal Lymphadenopathy Mimicking Lymph Node Metastases from Breast Neoplasia

Fabrice FOKOUE, I. Duran DERIJCKERE, Carlos ARTIGAS, Erwin WOFF, Géraldine GEBHART, Denis LARSIMONT and Patrick FLAMEN

Article Type: Case Report | First Published: July 21, 2021

Since the effective start of the large vaccination campaigns against the Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) pandemic, case reports are rising concerning unilateral axillary lymphadenopathies highly uptaking FDG PET/CT scans. These lymphadenopathies can be a source of false positive for FDG PET/CT in a post-vaccination context. We report here the case of a 59-year-old womanfor whom a FDG PET/CT has been performed as part of the initial extension assessment of a recurrence of a left breast, 15 days...

Correlation of PD-L1 Expression with Histological Patterns and Treatment Response in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Boulos Beshai, MD, Shabnam Rehman and Bo Xu, MD

Article Type: Cohort Study | First Published: July 21, 2021

Programmed Death Ligand-1 (PD-L1) inhibitors are currently approved for treatment of advanced stage Non- Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) patients. We investigated the correlation between PD-L1 expression level in tumor cells by ImmunoHistochemical Method (IHC) to tumor histological growth patterns. Slides or scanned digital images of NSCLC cases tested for PD-L1 between December, 2016 to April, 2018 were blindly re-reviewed to confirm the PD-L1 expression and growth patterns. PD-L1 expression lev...

Rhinosinusal Melanomas

Carlos S Ruggeri, Eduardo Figueroa, Agustina Lorea, Gabriel Rondón Gonzalez and Ana Carolina Riveros

Article Type: Original Article | First Published: June 30, 2021

Eight patients had melanomas, five located in the paranasal sinuses, two in the nasal cavity and one in nasal cavity and maxillary sinus. The incidence of melanomas in our population of patients with rhinosinusal malignant tumors was 11.11%. Three patients were treated with surgery and radiotherapy and three with surgery only. Two were treated with palliative criteria. In the six patients treated with curative intent, the local control and specific survival were 83.33%, and 66.66% respectively. ...

Dietary exposure to 2-amino-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo [4,5-b] pyridine (PhIP) in cooked meats maybe responsible for the high burden of Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in southwestern Uganda. We conducted a pilot case-control study among 31 histologically confirmed ESCC cases and 54 age, gender, and residence matched healthy community controls sampled from the general population at the time of accrual of each case in southwestern Uganda. We collected data including smoking, alcohol consu...

Continuous Lower Abdominal Compression a Possible Therapeutic Intervention in ARDS

Alexandru Cupaciu, MD, Vladimir Cohen, MD, Emmanuel Dudoignon, MD and François Dépret, MD, PhD

Article Type: Editorial | First Published: June 30, 2021

We report the case of sixty-years-old men who necessitated intubation and mechanical ventilation for severe COVID-19. After 3 days under mechanical ventilation, in semi recumbent position, despite being ventilated with 5.5 ml/kg/IBW and 8 cmH2O of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP), deeply sedated and paralyzed, his plateau pressure (Pplat) was markedly elevated at 41 cmH2O. However, we noticed that placing our patient in supine position his Pplat decreased to 28 cmH2O. However, due to well...
