How to sign in to a Discover credit card, bank account or loan, and where to go once your card has moved to Capital One.

Discover Login: Sign In to Your Credit Card or Bank Account

Quick answer: For your Discover login, type www.discover.com into your browser (or open the Discover Mobile app), select Log In, choose Credit Card or Bank if you are asked, and enter your User ID and password. If Capital One has told you your card has moved, sign in at capitalone.com instead.

People look up "Discover login" for all kinds of accounts. For one person it's a credit card. For someone else it's a savings account, a personal loan, or a student loan they took out years ago. Now that Discover is part of Capital One, there's no longer a single Discover account login that covers all of them. Below you'll find the right page for each one, plus help with whatever you were logging in to do in the first place, whether that's checking a balance, paying the bill or pulling up a statement.

Please note: this is an independent guide, not a Discover or Capital One page. You won't find a login form here, and we will never ask for your User ID, password or one-time code. Those belong only on discover.com, capitalone.com or in the official apps.

One quick clarification, because the names get mixed up a lot. This guide is about Discover, the US card and bank company. It has nothing to do with Discovery Bank or Discovery Health in South Africa, or with Discovery Education.

Discover Card Login: How to Sign In Online

The Discover card login and the Discover credit card login are one and the same page. If you still have an old bookmark for discovercard.com, it now sends you there too. This is what the real page looks like, so you'll recognize it:

Official Discover card login page at discover.com with User ID and password boxes
  1. Open the page yourself. Type www.discover.com into an up-to-date browser, or use a bookmark you saved yourself. Skip any login link that arrives by text or email. On a work computer or a shared laptop, a private browsing window is a good idea.

  2. Select Log In and choose Credit Card if an account selector appears.

  3. Enter your User ID. This is the User ID you created when you registered, not your card number.

  4. Enter your password. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check Caps Lock.

  5. Confirm it's you. On a new device, Discover may send a one-time code to your phone or email.

  6. Open the card you want to manage. If you see a message that your account has moved, jump to the Capital One section.

The Log In box on discover.com has a drop-down menu with six account types: Credit Card, Bank Account, Student Loans, Personal Loans, Home Loans and Identity Theft Protection. Pick the wrong one and your User ID won't work, even if it's correct. There's also a Remember User ID box. Tick it only on your own device.

Tip: take a second to look at what your password manager filled in before you hit Log In. If you've ever changed your password, or you have a separate bank login, it's surprisingly easy to autofill the wrong one and never notice.

Discover Card Sign In on a Phone

The official app is Discover Mobile, published by Discover Financial Services. Download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play, then sign in with the same User ID and password you use on the website. You don't need separate apps, because the one app handles both card and bank accounts.

  • Inside the app you can see your balance, search transactions, view and download monthly statements, and manage payments.

  • Quick sign-in with Touch ID or a 4-digit passcode can be turned on in the app settings. Only use it on a phone that is yours alone.

  • App acting up? Open discover.com in your phone's browser instead. You can still get into your account while you sort out the app later.

Discover Bank Login: Access Checking and Savings

For a Discover bank login, start from Discover's Online Banking page rather than the credit card recovery or registration pages. That's where you manage:

  • Online Savings and money market accounts (the "Discover savings login" most people look for)

  • CDs and IRA CDs

  • Cashback Debit checking

  1. Open Discover Online Banking and select Log In.

  2. Enter the User ID and password for your banking access.

  3. Complete any verification step shown.

  4. Pick the account you need.

Banking has its own Forgot User ID/Password? and Register Now links. If the problem is with a bank account, use those rather than the card versions.

Can't see a savings account you know you have? Look for its transition notice. Capital One has a separate "what's changing" page for each Discover bank product, and different accounts can move at different times. One more thing worth knowing. Since 18 November 2025, eligible Capital One and Discover deposits share FDIC insurance coverage, so if you keep money at both banks, add up your total.

When a savings account moves to Capital One, your account number and variable rate stay the same. If you're new to Capital One you can usually keep your Discover username and password, unless that username is already taken there. Your routing number does change. Old direct deposits and scheduled transfers keep working, but incoming wires must use the new Capital One routing number or they'll be returned. Capital One's savings team is on 800-655-2265, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET, seven days a week.

Discover Loans Login

Personal loans

Personal loans have their own page at discover.com/personal-loans/login-register. Your personal loan User ID can be different from your card User ID, so if your usual card details don't work here, that's probably why. Discover lists 1-866-248-1255 for personal loan help.

Student loans

Discover left student lending, and all Discover student loans moved to Firstmark Services (part of Nelnet) between 7 September and 16 November 2024. Log in at firstmarkservices.com, not discover.com.

Home loans

Discover closed its home loan business in 2025 and stopped servicing loans on 2 February 2026. Your new servicer should have sent its own login details by mail or email. Be wary of anyone who calls you about your mortgage, since scammers are using the change as cover.

Has Your Discover Account Moved to Capital One?

Discover merged into Capital One on 18 May 2025. Capital One is moving Discover credit cards onto its own website and app in waves through 2026 and early 2027, and some cardholders have already made the switch. So if you sign in one day and your card just isn't there, don't start resetting your password. The card has most likely moved.

  • Not moved yet: keep using discover.com and the Discover app as normal.

  • Moved: Capital One says you'll "no longer be able to view or manage that account on Discover.com or in the Discover app." Sign in at capitalone.com or in the Capital One app.

  • Already bank with Capital One? Keep your existing Capital One username and password. You'll be asked to link your Discover card the first time you sign in after the move.

  • New to Capital One? Create a Capital One username and password using the steps in your email or letter.

  • Several Discover accounts? They can move on different dates. You might sign in to Capital One for your card and still use discover.com for savings for a while.

Primary cardholders keep the same card number, APR, credit limit, rewards balance and $0 annual fee. Authorized users and joint account holders get new cards with new numbers. The Discover brand and network stay. See Capital One's Discover card FAQs for the full list.

A few things to know around your move date. Changing account details and redeeming rewards pause on Discover for a few days before the switch. A recent payment can take up to 3 business days to show at Capital One. Set up Capital One online access within 120 days, or your statements go back to paper. Apps linked to your card, like Venmo, Robinhood or Acorns, need to be connected again after you sign in to Capital One, and Discover's Freeze it becomes Card Lock.

What to Check After Your Discover Credit Card Login

Balance: know which number you're looking at

You seeWhat it means
Current balanceEverything posted to the account right now, including purchases since your last statement closed
Statement balanceWhat you owed on the day your last billing period closed. Paying this in full by the due date avoids interest on purchases
Minimum payment dueThe smallest payment that keeps the account in good standing for this bill
Payment due dateThe deadline for at least the minimum payment

Here's a common example. Your statement closes, and a few days later you buy groceries with the card. Now your current balance is higher than your statement balance. Nothing is wrong. The groceries will simply show up on next month's bill.

View or download a Discover statement

  1. Select the card account.

  2. Open Statements (sometimes under Documents).

  3. Pick the billing month and choose view or download (PDF).

Got more than one card? Check the last four digits and the month before you save the file, especially if you're pulling statements for taxes or a loan application.

Pay your bill without paying twice

Before you submit anything, see whether AutoPay is on or a payment is already scheduled. Double-check the amount, the date and the bank account, and hang on to the confirmation number. If the payment status looks unclear, give it some time or call support. Paying a second time "just to be safe" can leave money tied up for no reason.

Registering Online Access Is Not the Same as Activating a Card

  • Register: set up online access for an account you already have. Go to discover.com/register-account, pick card, bank, personal loan or home loan, confirm who you are (usually your account or card number, date of birth and the last four digits of your SSN), then create a User ID and password.

  • Activate: switch on a new physical card. Follow the sticker or letter that came with the card. For a card issued after the Capital One move, Capital One lists the Capital One app, discover.capitalone.com or 877-250-2392.

  • Sign in: open an account you have already registered.

Applying for a new card is none of these. If you already hold the card, you only need to register it for online access, not apply again.

Forgot Your Discover User ID or Password?

  1. On the official login page, choose Forgot User ID/Password.

  2. Confirm your identity. Discover asks for details such as your account information, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

  3. Follow the steps to see your User ID or create a new password.

No User ID at all? Discover says you can still get in with your 16-digit account number, your date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number. Once you're in, you can create a new User ID or password.

If your card has already moved, use Capital One's sign-in help. There's one catch during the switch itself. Capital One says that if you forget your Discover details partway through, you should reset them on Discover's website or app first.

Please don't send card details to a blog, a social media page or a "recovery service." Real account recovery only happens on the official site, or by phone using the official number.

Sometimes the problem is on Discover's side. Discover posts planned maintenance on its Online Banking page, and during those windows most features are down online, in the app and by phone. Your browser matters too: Discover needs Chrome 112, Safari 15.6, Firefox 113 or Edge 112 or newer, with cookies turned on, and it warns that you won't be able to log in from an outdated browser.

When a Discover log in fails, it's tempting to reset your password straight away. Try to figure out first whether the trouble is the page, your details or the account itself. And go easy on clearing cookies. It can sign you out of saved devices, so make sure you can still receive a verification code before you do it.

The safest number is always the one on the back of your card or on your statement. Locked out with a payment due? Call that number, ask which payment options apply to your account, and check whether a payment is already scheduled. If you'd rather mail a check, use the address printed on your statement.

Keep Your Discover Login Safe

  • Check the address bar. The real sites are discover.com and capitalone.com. Look-alikes such as "discover-login-help.com" or "discover.com.verify-account.net" are fake.

  • Never share a one-time code. Discover and Capital One will never call, text or email to ask for your password or code.

  • Watch for merger scams. Discover warns that scammers may pretend to be Discover or Capital One. If someone calls about "moving your card," hang up and call the number on your card.

  • Turn on alerts. Purchase and login alerts in the app are the quickest way to notice something you didn't do.

  • Log out on shared devices and don't let the browser save your password there.

Frequently Asked Questions & Answers (FAQS):

Type www.discover.com into your browser, select Log In, choose Credit Card if asked, then enter your User ID and password. You can also sign in with the Discover Mobile app. If your card has moved to Capital One, sign in at capitalone.com instead.

Both start on discover.com, but bank accounts are managed through Discover Online Banking. Your banking User ID may be different from your card User ID, and registering one product does not set up the other.

Your card has probably moved to Capital One. Once it moves, you can no longer view or manage it on discover.com or in the Discover app. Sign in at capitalone.com or in the Capital One app using the steps in your email or letter.

On the official Discover login page, choose Forgot User ID/Password and confirm your identity with details such as your account number, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security number.

Call the number on the back of your card or your statement and ask which payment options apply to your account. For mailed payments, use the address printed on your statement. Check for a payment that is already scheduled first.

Discover lists 1-800-347-2683 for credit cards, 1-800-347-7000 for banking and 1-800-290-9885 for online banking technical support. You can always use the number printed on the back of your card.

Choose another verification method if the screen offers one. If your phone number or email has changed, call customer service rather than trying to get around the verification.

No. The move isn't reported as a new account, and your account open date stays the same. Your credit report may show the lender as Discover by Capital One or Capital One.

Conclusion:

Most Discover login problems come down to using the wrong page. Credit cards and bank accounts start at discover.com. Personal loans have a page of their own, and student loans are now with Firstmark. Once a card has moved, it signs in at Capital One. Whatever you're logging in to, type the address yourself, and never share a password or one-time code with someone who contacted you first.
