Dr. Li Li received M.D. degree in 1988 from China Medical University (CMU), and obtained Ph.D. degree in 2001 from Fuwai Hospital & Cardiovascular Institute, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Peking Union Medical University (PUMU). During her Ph.D. course, Dr. Li found that obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) was one of main risk factors of secondary hypertension. Then she started to research the effect of sleep apnea on cardiovascular diseases. She was the first person to apply the auto-CPAP to the heart failure patients with central sleep apnea (CSA) in China. She also studied the role of OSA on arrhythmia including brady-arrhythmia and atrial fibrillation (AF). These interests made her gain many opportunities for further training successfully, such as in Sydney University in Australia and Texas Medical Center in USA. It is the relationship between the OSA and cardiovascular diseases that captured her research interest all the time and she published more than 20 articles on journals. Dr. Li currently is a specialist in cardiology and sleep medicine in Beijing Tong Ren Hospital and medical director in Beijing Heartonline Science and Technology Company (www.heartonline.cn). She is member of training team of National Center for Cardiovascular Disease (NCCD), Ministry of Health, China; member of fourth and fifth council of Chinese Hypertension League (CHL); member of clinical teaching group, Capital University of Medical Sciences (CUMS). She is also special reviewer for many journals including Chinese Journal of Clinicians, Chinese Journal of Multiple Organ Diseases in the Elderly, Chinese Journal of General Practitioners, and Global Journal of Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Diseases.

I am Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Researcher at the Department of Neurology I.C. of the 'Oasi' Institute for Research on Mental Retardation and Brain Aging (I.R.C.C.S.) in Troina, Italy. After graduation with honors in Medicine in 2007, I trained at the School of Neurology of the University of Catania, and I am now a PhD Student at the same Institution. I specialized in cerebrovascular diseases and Neurosonology at the 'Stroke Unit' based on the 'Sant'Andrea Civic Hospital' in La Spezia (Italy). As visiting clinical research Fellow, I further trained at the Department of Clinical Neurophysiology of the 'Royal Victoria Infirmary' and at the Department of Neuroscience, Newcastle University (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK). In 2013 I was selected for one the six scientific Fellowships promoted by the European Federation of Neurological Societies' (EFNS), with a project titled 'Visual hallucinations in dementia with Lewy bodies: a combined TMS/EEG study.' I have co-authored more than 50 publications in international refereed scientific Journals and Conferences and I am also Editorial Board member and Reviewer of several international Journals. My main clinical interests are: cerebrovascular diseases, vascular-related cognitive impairments, neuropsychiatric diseases, Clinical Neurophysiology, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and, more recently, sleep disorders and gluten-related neuropathology. My current scientific activity focuses on the neurophysiological evaluation of cognitive and mood behavioral characteristics of different neurological and psychiatric diseases. In the last years, our research group has applied electrophysiological investigations and techniques of non-invasive brain stimulation in different clinical contexts, such as cerebrovascular diseases, cognitive impairment, sleep disorders and major depression. In particular, the study of cortical excitability to TMS revealed further insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms and neurochemical basis underlying these conditions. This activity is reflected in scientific publications in international peerreviewed indexed journals and by communications and poster presentations in national and international Meetings. More recently, I am carrying forward investigations based on integration of different neurophysiological methods (TMS-EEG) for the experimental study of the processes underlying neurotransmission and cortical plasticity specifically involved in the regulation of sleep and cognitive functions in both normal and pathological conditions.
