In 1981, she co-founded with Professor Jean-Pierre Pelletier, the Osteoarthritis Research Unit at the University of Montreal Hospital Centre, which today is world renowned for its research in the field. Dr. Burkhard F. Leeb was born in Vienna on August 23rd, 1956. He received his medical degree from the University of Vienna in 1981. Subsequently he spent his residency and training in internal medicine as well as in rheumatology at Lainz Hospital, Vienna, Austria. From 1990 to 1999 he served as a consultant at the 2nd Dept. of Medicine, Center for Rheumatology, at the respective hospital. He received his specializationin rheumatology in 1994. 1999 he was appointed director of the newly established center for rheumatology, Lower Austria, at Stockerau Hospital. In collaboration with his co-workers he was able to establish this institution in Austrian rheumatology within a relative short time period. Aside this occupation Dr. Leeb had the honor to serve as a member and also as co-convenor of several EULAR task-forces, amongst them the ones for osteoarthritis. Up to date Dr. Leeb has published more than 120 articles in peer reviewed journals, amongst them Meta-analyses on chondroitin sulfate, and diacerein, as well as in books. With the development of a functional silk scaffolds as well as the stepwise differentiation of embryonic or adult stem cells with the combination of biochemical and mechanical strategies, Prof Ouyang's researches improved structural and functional tendon and cartilage regeneration significantly in vitro and in vivo.He has filed ten national patents applications (fourapproved) and published more than thirty original research papers in the international journals. Among these papers, more than fouty papers corresponded by Prof Ouyang were published in the leading journals of particular fields, such as Stem Cells, Biomaterials, Cell Transplantation( Incitations >1000, Average IF=5.6). As instructor of orthopaedics, Dr. El-Ghazaly visited Istanbul University in 2005, gaining further operative experience at arthroplasty of the hip and knee. By late 2007, Dr. El-Ghazaly was attending at the New England Baptist Hospital-Boston, involved in sports (shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery) and arthroplasty, and waiting to start a 3-month foot and ankle fellowship in early 2008. In April 2008, he attended a foot and ankle fellowship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital then attended a 6-week advanced AO trauma fellowship at the BG Klinik in Ludwigshafen - Germany (June-August 2008). Dr. Lukas A. Holzer has received his MD at the Medical University of Vienna. During his MD studies he did clerkships at the University of Bonn, the University College London, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Zurich. Currently, he is Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Medical University of Graz. He has been visiting research fellow at the Center for Advanced Orthopaedic Studies at the Harvard Medical School. His research has included basic, translational and clinical studies in various musculoskeletal conditions including osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. He is serving as an associate editor of Plastic and Aesthetic Research and editorial member of International Journal of Orthopaedics. Furthermore he served as reviewer for journal such as New England Journal of Medicine, Acta Orthopaedica, Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders. He is a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research and the International Osteoporosis Foundation.
